Band Course Descriptions Band 1 - (Symphonic Band) Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 For woodwind and brass players. Study includes band literature from various styles and time periods. Emphasis is on individual and ensemble skill development. This course should be taken both semesters. Public musical performances will be expected. Band 2 - (Wind Ensemble) Grades 10, 11, & 12 Audition and teacher recommendation required for placement in this class. Continued study of band literature from various styles and time periods. Emphasis is on increased skill development for the individual and ensemble. Public musical performances will be expected. This course should be taken both semesters. Instrumental Ensemble: Percussion This section of percussion is designed for students interested in percussion ensemble, marching percussion and concert band percussion music. Freshman taking this course should have been enrolled in a middle school band class or contact Mr. Heist for approval to register for this course. This course should be taken both semesters. Public musical performances will be expected. Jazz Band Students will perform various styles of jazz including swing, latin and popular music. Improvisation and jazz theory will be emphasized. Audition or director approval required along with concurrent enrollment in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble for all wind players. Public musical performances will be expected.
